Mother's Day... Let's Talk About It.

Friday before Mother's Day 2025, I posted the photo above to Instagram with the caption
"I said what I said", and I truly do believe that statement.
I'm not saying mothers shouldn't be celebrated or appreciated, far from it. I know not everyone will see things the way I do, and that's okay. But at the root of my statement, it feels that moms everywhere are screaming that they need more support from their spouse, co-parent, and families but feel the only time they can ask for anything is during Mother's Day. I do believe that social media has turned Mother's Day into another capitalistic grab for as much financial gain as possible. I cannot go on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok and not see my feed filled with posts about "What to buy" for Mother's Day or jokes about moms EXPECTING a very expensive solo vacation. It honestly disgusts me.
This Mother's Day, I am so excited to wake up when my toddlers do, spend a day with them and just enjoy the little moments of my Motherhood.
Am I expecting a fancy gift? Absolutely not.
Will I appreciate anything gifted to me? Without a doubt.
I don't need a gift or a card to feel appreciated, I need time with my family doing something we all enjoy.
I hope this Mother's Day, when you are checking your social media, you aren't dwelling on what you didn't get or feeling unappreciated because your spouse or co-parent didn't do something extravagant to surprise you. I hope you are able to enjoy whatever phase of Motherhood you are in with the family you created - because without that you wouldn't be the main character of the day.
